The Sírus cowl is a cloud of softness and warmth around your neck, so light and wispy you barely notice it. The idea behind this lovely little cowl is to make the most out of a treasured yarn, so precious that you may only have one small skein. And what Icelandic yarn is more precious than pure cashmere? An endangered species today, the goat was introduced to Iceland by the first settlers in the 9th century or even earlier. It developed cashmere in the harsh Icelandic climate, one of the finest in the world. It is knitted in the round with a true lace motif (lace is knitted in every round), but easy to follow and very intuitive. The beautiful pattern enhances the yarn and uses very little of it for a most striking result. **Size**: one size 48 cm / 19” circumference x 27 cm / 10½” long You can obtain more sizes by changing needle size and adjust the circumference and height by adding or subtracting motifs. You will however run out of yarn if you are making the cowl bigger. **Yarn**: any fingering weight yarn suitable for lace Yarn used in sample: Icelandic cashmere from the goats in Háafell and Ytri-Fagridalur farms, spun at the Uppspuni minimill: natural color (not dyed), 1 skein of approx. 25 g = 85 m / 93 yds **Gauge**: 10 cm / 4” = 22 sts and 30 rows on 3.5 mm / US 4 needle in Stocking stich. If you are knitting too loose, you will likely run out of yarn. **Needle**: 3.5 mm / US 4 circular needle or size to obtain the gauge. Magic loop technique is used but you can also use double-pointed needles or any other technique to knit in the round. **Notions**: darning needle, stitch marker, pins, rectangular cardboard form (25 x 40 cm / 10x16”)
