Coaster Stairs Motif

Square Coaster Crochet Pattern. This fun crochet pattern is for making a pretty geometric crochet coaster. The coaster is an example for a geometric stairs motif described in the pattern. The motif can be made as a square or rectangle and can be used for many projects such as: blankets, bags, rugs, pillow covers and more. A project could be made of as many motifs as you like. You can crochet a blanket by joining small squares or a coaster from a single square, as shown here; the possibilities are endless !! *********************************************** In the pattern you will learn how to crochet a basic shape of the motif, then you can pick a specific square or rectangle shape to crochet and plan your desired project. The pattern works well with 2 colours, but you can make it much more colourful if you like, the coaster is shown in rainbow colours :) The coaster measures: 4.3 X 4.3 inches (11 X 11 cm). *********************************************** This is a really fun crochet pattern, using standard crochet stitches and the Tunisian simple stitch, which is described in detail. This stitch is great to crochet; you will learn it in this pattern (if you don’t know it already) and could use it in future projects. *********************************************** The pattern includes 3 PDF files: 1. Detailed step by step photo tutorial for the motif. 2. File without pictures for printing the motif pattern. 3. Photo tutorial explaining how to join new yarn without a slipknot. All are written in US English terms. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the pattern by following the photo tutorial first. The printable version is best used when you already know the pattern. Skill level: Intermediate. A basic knowledge of crochet techniques and stitches required. *********************************************** **Materials:** 1. Yarn: any yarn can be used for this motif, depending on your project. For the coaster shown here I used, 100% Cotton, Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK 137 yards/125 m/50 g; any other brand of yarn appropriate for a coaster can be used. The amount of yarn required for a coaster is detailed in the pattern. 2. Crochet hook: the crochet hook should be chosen according to your project, advise on hook choice is given in the pattern. For the coaster I used: Size 3.5mm (Metric) E/4 (US) crochet hook (you might want a larger hook size for the border). In the coaster, maximum loops on hook are 9, you don’t need a long Tunisian crochet hook for it. 3. Scissors. 4. Tapestry needle. 5.
