**Arctic Convoy Hat** *A hat to honour the Arctic Convoys that left from Loch Ewe on their perilous wartime journeys. (All sales support the work of the ACM)][5] **Yarn** John Arbon Devonia 4 ply (50% Exmoor Blueface / 30% Bluefaced Leicester / 20% Romney; 97m / 106yds per 25g skein) A Moon Bloom: 2 x 25g skeins B Bleeding Heart: 2 x 25g skeins C Devonia Cream: 1 x 25g skein **Needles and notions** Two gauge-size circular needles for hat body Below gauge-size circular needle for edging / icord Stitch marker Tapestry needle Pom pom maker (optional) **Gauge** 28 stitches and 34 rows to 10cm / 4in over stockinette worked back and forth Use 3.25mm needle as a starting point for swatching. **Sizes** S (L) To fit adult heads with circumference 51-56cm / 20-22in (57-61cm / 22½-24in) **Pattern notes** This hat is knitted flat, from side to side. After a provisional (winding) cast-on, the body of the work is knitted in stockinette stripes, which are shaped to create a bias fabric, with each stripe divided from the next with a contrasting welt. After being knitted to the desired circumference, the final stripe is joined to the cast-on stitches with a three-needle bind off, creating a neat and seamless tube. The top edge is then gathered in and secured to form a crown to which an optional pom- pom may be added. Stitches are picked up around the bottom edge and a garter stitch and i-cord brim completes the hat. The Arctic Convoy Museum hold the rights to this design.
