POIMU

POIMU means “crease” in Finnish. The inspiration came from the yarn I used —with its shades of grey, rust and brown. It reminded me of rock formations and geological creases, which gave me the idea to add tucks at the front. The vest is worked top-down: it starts at the back neck which is shaped for a better fit and the rest of the back is worked flat in stockinette until the ribbed hem. Then, each front is picked up at the shoulder and the tuck pattern starts when shaping the short v-neck. Both front pieces are worked flat and seamed to the back using a slight variant of the mattress stitch. It is recommended to use a yarn that is light, so that the tucks at the front don’t end up being too heavy. **Needles:** 4.5 mm / US 7 80 cm / 32” circular/straight needles (body and hem), 4 mm / US 6 80 cm / 32” circular needles (armhole and front band ribbing). **Notions:** Removable stitch markers, stitch holders, tapestry needle. **Gauge** 19 sts x 30 rows = 10 cm / 4” on 4.5 mm / US 7 needles in St st knitted flat, after blocking. 19 sts x 60 rows = 10 cm / 4” on 4.5 mm / US 7 needles in Tuck stitch pattern flat, after blocking.
