Ola Yoke

This jumper is my version of a traditional Shetland Yoke jumper, I have used raglan shaping before the yoke, a lower neckline and short row shaping to make it more modern. I used 5 contrast colours but the yoke would look equally striking in one shade. Ola’s Ness is an area located near to my Grandads Croft in Northmavine in Shetland and the graphic nature of the pattern reminds me of sunny childhood summers spent in Ollaberry in the 1990’s. YARN Jamieson & Smith 2ply Jumper Weight (fingering weight; 100% Shetland w ool; 118m/129yds per 25g ball) A:81 (dark charcoal grey) x 10 (11, 11, 12, 12, 13, 14, 14, 15) balls B:14 (light blue) x 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) ball C:1 (white) x 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) ball D:66 (pale yellow) x 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) ball E:91 (bright yellow) x 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) ball F: 125 (orange) x 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) ball Yarn quantities are estimates. GAUGE Body and Sleeves: 28 sts and 40 rows to 10cm / 4” measured over blocked stocking stitch on 3mm needles Yoke: 28 sts and 28 rows to 10cm/ 4” measured over blocked fair isle using 3.5mm needles. NEEDLES & ACCESSORIES 2.5mm (UK 13-12 / US 1.5) circular needles or DPNs for working body, sleeves and neck rib 3mm (UK 11 / US 2.5) circular needles or DPNs for working body and sleeves Optional: 3.5mm (UK 10-9 / US 4) circular needles or DPNs for yoke – my Fair Isle knitting is quite tight so I choose to go up half a needle size for the yoke. You may not feel this is necessary but take time to check your gauge and adjust as necessary. 4 stitch markers (1 in a different colour for beginnin g of round) Stitch holders or waste yarn Shown in the 34" size with zero ease.
