This cowl is bandana style, with the bottom triangular bandana section worked first, from the center out, and then the top rectangular cowl section is worked into the top edge of the bandana section. A button band is added at the end, and 3 - 1" buttons are sewn on.
Pattern Inspiration:
This pattern was inspired by the amazing Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park. I actually chose this yarn before our visit, thinking about photos I had seen of that area. It ended up being a perfect match! The greens and grays of the yarn reflect the surrounding landscape, with the rainbow pops just like the edges of the springs.
Basic Information:
Pattern is written in US crochet terms.
Yarn: Sport (weight 2) or DK weight (weight 3). Approximately 230 yards. I used Lang Yarns Wool Addicts Artsy for my green version, Berroco Vintage DK for the purple version, and Polka Dot Sheep Stumptown DK for the teal version. See page 8 for more details!
Hook: 5.5 mm, or size needed to meet gauge.
Finished size: 23” circumference, cowl depth - 7”, total depth - 16”.
Gauge: While gauge is not critical for this pattern, changes in gauge will impact yardage. Before blocking, the first 3 rows should measure 2” deep by 4” wide.
Version 1 (green variegated): Lang Yarns Wool Addicts Artsy, cotton chainette, 295y/100g, used about 85g/250yards
Version 2 (teal): Polka Dot Sheep Stumptown DK, 100% merino wool, 231y/100g, used about 90g/210 yards
Version 3 (purple): Berroco Vintage DK, 50/50 acrylic/merino, 290y/100g, used about 70g/212 yards.
