* The Luna Zip Sweater is worked top-down in stockinette stitch with three strands of yarn in different colors held together to create a unique melange effect. The back yoke is worked flat with short rows to shape the neckline and shoulder slopes, with increases for armhole shaping. Stitches are then picked up to work the right and left fronts separately, creating the opening for the zipper. After the front and back sections of the yoke are complete, they are joined and the body is worked in the round to the hem. Stitches are picked up along the armhole edges to work the sleeves in the round. The neckline is finished back and forth in 1x1 ribbing, and hidden bands are worked to form the zipper placket, where the zipper is sewn in at the end. * Examples of knitted projects can be found on Instagram under the hashtag [#lunazipsweater][1] * The black melange sweater is made with Como col.01T & Milano col.03M & Piura col.00 by Lamana [SIZE M]. * The green melange sweater is made with Pernilla col.977 & Saga col.262 & Alva col.210 by Filcolana [Size M]. **Sizes:** XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL The Luna Zip Sweater has an oversized fit and is designed to have approx. 13–20 cm [5–8 in] of positive ease, with the larger sizes featuring slightly less ease to ensure a more balanced and comfortable fit. This means the garment’s measurements will be between 13–20 cm [5–8 in] larger than your actual bust circumference, depending on the size. The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL are designed to fit a bust circumference of 80-85 (85-90) 90-95 (95-100) 100-110 (110-120) 120-130 (130-140) 140-150 cm [31½-33½ (33½-35½) 35½-37½ (37½-39½) 39½-43¼ (43¼-47¼) 47¼-51¼ (51¼-55) 55-59 in]. Before you begin, measure yourself to determine the right size. For example, if your bust circumference is 92 cm [36¼ in], you should knit a size M. If you are between sizes, choose the size based on how loose you prefer the garment to fit. Using the diagram with the finished garment measurements can be a helpful reference when deciding which size to select. **Finished measurements:** Circumference: 106 (111) 115 (120) 128 (135) 145 (154) 163 cm [41¾ (43¾) 45¼ (47¼) 50½ (53¼) 57 (60¾) 64¼ in] Length: 56 (57) 58 (60) 62 (64) 66 (68) 70 cm [22 (22½) 22¾ (23½) 24½ (25¼) 26 (26¾) 27½ in] **Suggested yarn:** Filcolana (worked with three strands throughout the process): 250 (250) 300 (300) 350 (350) 400 (400) 450 g Pernilla by Filcolana 50 g = 175 m [191 yds] & 150 (150) 200 (200) 200 (200) 250 (250) 250 g Saga by Filcolana 50 g = 300 m [328 yds] & 125 (125) 150 (150) 175 (175) 200 (200) 225 g Alva by Filcolana 25 g = 175 m [191 yds]. Lamana (worked with three strands throughout the process): 200 (200) 225 (225) 250 (275) 300 (325) 350 g Como by Lamana 25 g = 120 m [131 yds] & 150 (150) 150 (175) 175 (200) 200 (225) 225 g Milano by Lamana 25 g = 180 m [197 yds] & 150 (150) 150 (200) 200 (200) 200 (200) 250 g Piura by Lamana 50 g = 400 m [437 yds]. **Yarn alternatives:** **Choosing alternatives for melange** When substituting yarns, think of the fabric as a balance of three strands: – The thickest strand: classic wool with approx. 180 m [197 yds] per 50 g, providing structure and body. – The middle strand: light and airy wool around 300 m [328 yds] per 50 g, adding elasticity and balance. – The thinnest strand: lace alpaca (approx. 350–400 m [383–437 yds] per 50 g) or silk mohair (approx. 210–250 m [230–273 yds] per 25 g), contributing halo and softness. **Choosing alternatives for solid** For a solid-color sweater, use a single strand of wool with approx. 100 m [109 yds] per 50 g, held together with either lace alpaca or silk mohair. This two-strand combination provides a similar density and drape while being easier to manage. For this option, you will need approx. 350 (350) 350 (400) 450 (450) 500 (500) 550 g of wool (50 g = 100 m [109 yds]) and 150 (150) 150 (175) 175 (200) 200 (225) 225 g of silk mohair (25 g = 210 m [230 yds]). This combination has not been test knitted, so the yardage is approximate and the actual usage may vary. **Needles:** Circular needles: 4.5 mm [US 7] 40, and 80 or 100 cm [16, and 32 or 40 in]. 4 mm [US 6] 80 or 100 cm [32 or 40 in] optional. 3.5 mm [US 4] 80 or 100 cm [32 or 40 in]. Double-pointed needles: 4.5 mm [US 7] optional. 4 mm [US 6]. 3.5 mm [US 4] optional. **Notions:** Stitch markers, extra yarn or stitch holders, tapestry needle, sewing needle, zipper (No. 4 or No. 5, 25 cm [10 in]), matching sewing thread. **Gauge:** After washing and blocking: 17 sts x 25 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 in] in stockinette stitch on 4.5 mm [US 7] needles. Please make sure to knit a swatch. Ensure that your swatch gauge matches the given one. If you cannot achieve the required gauge using the suggested needles, adjust your needle size to reach the correct gauge. **Difficulty:** ADVANCED ★★★★☆ You can read more about the difficulty levels [here][2].
