This rectangular piece is then folded in half widthwise and joined using Kitchener Stitch to seamlessly close the back of the hood. For Baby and Child sizes, stitches are cast on for a tie, then picked up from the back neck of the hood, then cast on for the other tie. The back neck is shaped with decreases and then the tie is completed. For Adult sizes, stitches are first picked up from the back neck, then cast on for a cowl. The back neck is shaped with decreases, then two short row sections are worked to build the cowl. After binding off, the end of the cowl is joined to the hood using Mattress Stitch.
