Sun Moon Granny Square

Whimsigoth-inspired granny square with a crescent moon inside a sun. Can be made with any size yarn/hook. Pictured is a worsted weight yarn with a 5.5mm hook. Yarn pictured is Caron Simply Soft and Hobbi Manarola. R1: 8 singles in magic circle R2: ch2. DONT TURN. 1dc in first stitch. 2 doubles in each single around. Slip moon color in on last stitch. Dont tie off or cut off 1st color. (16 stitches total) R3 (moon): change color and ch1. DONT TURN. 1sc in next stitch, 1sc in next stitch. 2 hdc in next stitch, 2 doubles in the next stitch, 3 doubles each in the next 3 stitches, 2 doubles in the next stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch. 1sc in next stitch, 1 sc in next stitch. (4 empty stitches remaining). Tie off orange color. R4: pick up 1st color yarn again. Ch1. TURN. 2 hdc each in the next 4 stitches. 1sc in the next stitch (1st stitch of orange moon). 2sc in next stitch. Alternate 1sc and 2sc in each stitch around. End at the end of the moon w/1sc in last stitch. All sc into the moon are in the BACK LOOP ONLY. R6: DON'T TURN. ch2+2dc together, in same stitch. chain 3. Skip 2 stitches. 3dc together in next stitch. Continue around. Should have 13 clusters at the end of the row. R7: (changing colors). DONT TURN. Slip stitch into next ch3 space over. Change color. Ch2. 3dc in the ch3 space. *Change color. 1 dc on top of the 3dc together in previous row. Change color. 4dc in the ch3 space. Continue around from *. For last slip stitch to close the row, switch color. R8: (square off). Place stitch markers every 16 stitches. Ch2 (counts as a stitch) 2dc, 1tr, *2tr+ch3+2tr in marked corner stitch. 1 triple, 2dc, 3hdc, 3sc, 3hdc, 2dc, 1tr. Repeat from * around.
