“…The waters you saw…, are the
peoples, multitudes, nations and
languages.” Rev. 17: 15. Jesus said to
His disciples, “You are the light of
the World, a City set on a hill cannot
be hidden.” Matthew 4:14
In the book, All the Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr, a beautiful blue diamond plays an important role as its theme runs throughout the story. The name of the gem is Sea of Flames, which is described as "the color of tropical waters with flames of red in the center." This description is the inspiration for this poncho. Using color, stitch patterns, sense of motion, and the theme of diamonds, flames and water come into play. The poncho has taken on an additional meaning as the whole shawl is the seas representing the people of the world, and the beads represent the flames, ie., the lights of the world, the true believers.
**A Note About Size**
Different yarns will block differently. Yarn with a cotton/acrylic blend yielded a poncho 19" in length. Wool yarn yielded a poncho 25" in length. Wool grows significantly more than cotton/acrylic when blocked.
**Beads**: 500 size 6/0 seed beads
**Difficulty Level:** This pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters who can read charts and are familiar with simple lace stitches. Knit, k2tog, centered double decrease, SSK and YO.
The poncho is knit entirely in the round from the top down. Every other round is a "rest" round, which is simply knit all the way around. Patterning takes place every other round.
Lace patterns are charted only with written directions for making the poncho. No line-by-line written directions are included.
Please shop carefully as once purchased, the pattern is not refundable.
