Every summer I start working on a few more pairs of socks to replace those that were worn out beyond repair during the previous winter. My most worn socks are always the thicker ones, they are so much warmer and stand much better to heavy wear, and this is how the design for Hearth socks was born.
These socks are knitted toe up and feature an afterthought heel and 2 of my favourite techniques of working with colour: simple stranded 1x1 colourwork and slipped stitch knitting. The majority of the socks (leg and foot) are worked using a slipped stitch pattern that creates fun texture and uses only one colour per round. The heels and toes are worked in 1x1 stranded colourwork that also adds extra thickness and durability to these areas prone to heavy wear.
**SIZE AND FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:**
(1, 2, 3, 4) (5, 6, 7, 8) equivalent to (46, 50, 54, 58) (62, 66, 70, 74) sts. The sample is shown in size 5.
Finished sock circumference: (16, 17, 18.5, 20) (21.5, 23, 24, 25.5) cm / (6.5, 6.75, 7.5, 8) (8.5, 9.25, 9.5, 10.25) inches (unstretched after light blocking).
*Please consider that your socks need to fit with a negative ease of 5 - 15% when choosing the size.*
