Heel Out Socks

If you've ever had trouble crocheting socks that fit your ankles and insteps just right, this is the sock pattern for you! **Skill Level:** Intermediate **Sizes:** Instructions given fit woman's shoe size 6-7 (small); 7-8 (medium), and 9-10 (large) **Finished Measurements:** Circumference of foot: 7, 8, 9 inches Foot Length: 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 inches Heel Diagonal Circumference: 10, 11, 12 inches **Materials:** Plymouth Yarn Happy Feet 100 Splash Hand Dyed super fine (fingering) weight wool/nylon (3.53 oz/384 yds/100 g per skein): 1 hank #0101 Crayon Size D/3/3.25mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge Tapestry needle 5 stitch markers **Pattern Notes** Do not join at end of rounds unless otherwise stated. Move markers up with each round as indicated. Subtle shifts in color are common with hand-dyed yarn and may result in a slight color variation between socks. **Construction Notes** Worked from the heel, this sock design includes an extra-stretchy instep for a more comfortable fit across the ankle. The heel begins much like a toe-up sock with increases to shape the heel. A flap is then worked in half-double crochet ribbing to the desired length across the instep. The foot is worked by crocheting around the bottom opening, into the the sole stitches and ends of rows on the bottom edge of the instep. The rest of the foot is worked similarly to a leg-down sock. Crochet the leg by working around the top opening, which includes the rear foot stitches and ends of rows on the top edge of the instep.
