The dress is knitted top down in raglan. Short rows are knitted in the ribbing in the neck to get a better fit. You can choose to make the dress just under the knee (the green dress), or to make it longer (the black dress). In the pattern it is written from the under knee point of view, but you can simply make it longer (or shorter) to fit your preference.
