My head first drifts to endless aqua marine seas, palm trees and caster sugar sand. Are you with me? Breathe in and exhale slowly.   The second place my head drifts to are grassy sand dunes, beach campfires and long strolls on miles of breezy beaches. I know they are very different climatically, but there can never be enough sea in my life. This classic striped crew I'm about to introduce to you has been inspired by my long beach walks and night campfires on Cape Cod. "If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air...."  (The Groove Armada remix of this song is one of my favourites). By day, Cape Cod is sunshine glory and then the evening onshore breeze cools everything down. So I'd like to give you a design that can encapsulate your warm days and your cool summer evenings... Let me introduce you to The Beachside Crew! **The Beachside Crew** is a comfortable, versatile, effortlessly chic, top-down, in the round, crewneck **sweater and tee.** Its beautifully structured overlapping split sides allow for complete freedom of movement, while remaining anchored on the neck and shoulders by a compound raglan yoke. The Beachside Crew allows for several customization options. * Choose from three neckbands. * Long or short sleeves? * Wide or narrow stripes? * Would you like to include waist shaping ? Like the Sea Collection of sweaters - it’s all here, giving you a year-round everyday relaxed striped sweater. If you obtain a round gauge below 31 rounds per 10cm/4”, you run the risk that your yoke will be too deep. The Beachside Crew is worked in one piece, in the round, from the top down. The EOR marker is placed at the back centre. Short rows are worked for shaping the neck area of the sweater and are worked simultaneously with the raglan shaping. Compound raglan shaping is then worked for the remainder of the yoke. After this you proceed to sleeve and body separation. The body is then worked either straight or with a shaped waistline. The overlapping split hem has very detailed instructions together with a helpful video. The sleeves, long or short, are worked from bottom of the yoke to the cuff. Finally, there are three neck options: a) A ribbed neckband. b) An attached I-cord neckband. c) A rolled stocking stitch neckband There are several video tutorials linked in this pattern including. 1) German Short rows 2) 1 x 1 Italian bind for working in the round and flat, beginning with a purl stitch. 3) Attached I-cord neckband 4) Jogless colour change **EXPERIENCE LEVEL** Advanced Beginner to Intermediate. **SIZES:** 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9) Finished chest circumference: 82 (90.5, 100, 110.5, 120) (130.5, 140, 150.5, 160)cm 32.75 (36.25, 40, 44.25, 48) (52.25, 56, 60.25, 64)” See Schematic for more detailed measurements. Suggested fit approx. 5 – 10cm (2 – 4”) positive ease. Samples shown in size 4 with 7.5cm (3”) ease. Finished garment measurements are taken with relaxed fabric after blocking, so please knit and block a gauge swatch. **NEEDLES & NOTIONS** - Needle A (gauge needle): 4mm/ US 6 circular needle, 80cm/ 32” length (or size needed to obtain gauge) to knit the garment and sleeves*. - Needle B: 3.5mm / US 4 circular needle, 80cm/ 32” length (or 0.5mm / 2 US sizes smaller than gauge-size needle) to knit hem and long sleeve cuffs*. - Needle C: Size 3.25mm/ US 3 circular needle, 80cm/ 32” & 40cm/ 16” length (or 0.75mm / 3 US sizes smaller than gauge-size needle) to knit the ribbed neck band and short sleeve cuffs*. - Spare gauge sized circular needle (with a different colour cable – but not necessary) to hold back hem sts. - Smooth waste yarn for holding live sts. - Tapestry/Darning needle - Stitch markers: 9. One unique. *If not using magic loop for neck, sleeve, or cuffs, then a set of double pointed needles will be required. **GAUGE** 22 sts x 32 rnds = 10cm x 10cm (4”x 4”) in stocking stitch worked in the round with Needle A after blocking. Gauge is very important, please see Construction notes on page 2. **YARN:** Wool & Forest, Merino DK, 115g (230m/252 yds, 100% Extrafine merino).
