Evenstar Socks

**This sock pattern has been designed for the Annual Sock Madness, a knitting competition held from February to June. My original design was accepted for the round 5 sock.** This design had been living in the back of my mind for a while—a sock filled with cables and a touch of sparkle from some beads. The spark of true inspiration came last spring when I finally experienced The Lord of the Rings—first through the full audiobook, then the films. I was completely captivated. I knew I wanted to create something that echoed the magic of that world, and the Evenstar felt like the perfect symbol to work with. Translating that elegant motif into a sock was a fun and rewarding challenge. I originally planned to include beads, experimenting with all sorts of placements and techniques. But despite my efforts, they just didn’t feel quite right. In the end, a simple bullion stitch gave me the texture and shimmer I was looking for—without overpowering the design. Letting go of the beads was a tough call, but I’m thrilled with how the combination of cables and delicate stitching came together in the final piece. **A Little Backstory on the Evenstar Socks** The Evenstar Socks were actually designed and the first sock knit last year—even before Sock Madness 18 had finished. I spent the summer making small adjustments, and I managed to get the pattern ready just in time for submission. Unfortunately, around that time, I started feeling the return of an old thumb tendonitis injury. By the end of September, I had to stop knitting completely, and since then, my knitting life has mostly come to a halt. So it was a huge surprise when the pattern was accepted—and an even bigger surprise when it was chosen as a round sock instead of just a bonus pattern. Because I couldn’t knit or edit much myself, I had to rely heavily on the amazing moderators and fully trust their tech editing process. I want to give a big shout-out to all the mods who helped with this pattern and supported me over the past few months. I haven’t seen any of the test knits yet, so I’m especially excited that the pattern is finally being published now. To all the Sock Madness knitters: I hope you enjoy the Evenstar Socks!
