**Alexander Shawl** by Joanna Herriott from Twinset & Purl
Welcome to the Alexander Shawl & Cowl, he joins the family of shawls & cowls as he is named after my cousin. When we were children, we would travel down to Devon where Alex lived and spend the school holidays together. Now Alex has lived and travelled all over the world as a chef. I think this bold graphic design would really suit his style. The large crescent shawl is created by knitting from tip to tip so you never have too many stitches on your needle. The pattern is created by striping a large garter rib pattern with an icord on each edge. There are three sizes available in the pattern, small, medium and large for both the shawl and the cowl. The cowl instructions are at the end of the pattern.

Needles: US4/3.50mm or needle required to get gauge
Gauge: 23 sts & 46 rows to 10 cm/4” over garter rib unblocked
Note: often gauge is not a priority in a shawl but with a garter shawl it can make a big difference to the finished object. It is good to get as close as possible to both row and stitch gauge
Notions: tapestry needle, removeable markers
