Evie Hood

The Evie Hood is worked flat, bottom up. Stitches for the neck are cast on and the body of the hood is knit in one piece. For head and crown decreases, the stitches are split so that right and left panels can be worked separately, then seamed together. The back of the head is also seamed shut. Finally, double knitting is used to create the ties, face and neck edging. Size: Adult size Neck Circumference excluding double knitted border: 45 cm (17.75 inches) Neck Circumference including double knitted border: 49 cm (19.25 inches) Length excluding double knitted border: 32 cm (12.5 inches) Length including double knitted border: 34 cm (13.5 inches) Gauge: 32 sts x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in textured stitch on 4 mm (US6) needles after washing and blocking. 30 sts x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in double knitting on 3 mm (US2.5) needles after washing and blocking. Needles: 4 mm and 3 mm (US6 and US2.5)/ 40 and 80 cm (16 and 32 inches) circular needles. Yarn: 1 strand of fingering weight yarn + 1 strand of lace weight yarn held together. approx. 400 metres or 437 yards of each. Note that this does NOT include yardage for a swatch. Moreover, you may need more or less yarn if you want to modify the length of the hood and/or ties. Yarn suggestions: 1 skein of The Camel’s Yarn ‘BFL Sock’ (100 g = 425 m/465 yds) and 2 balls of Hobbii ‘Friends Kid Silk’ (25 g = 200 m/218 yds) or 2 balls of Knitting For Olive ‘Merino’ (50 g = 250 m/273 yds) and 2 balls of Knitting For Olive ‘Soft Silk Mohair’ (25 g = 225 m/246 yds) or 2 skeins of Drops ‘Flora’ (50 g = 210 m/230 yds) and 2 balls of Drops ‘Kid-Silk’ (25 g = 210 m/230 yds) The sample was knitted using 1 strand of The Camel’s Yarn ‘BFL Sock’ shade Flora Day held with 1 strand of Hobbii ‘Friends Kid Silk’ shade 44 Rose. I had approx. 16 g left of ‘BFL Sock’ and 2 g left of ‘Friends Kid Silk’ upon completion of the hood (this did NOT include yardage for a swatch).
