This is an original design from my new book *[Summer Crochet: 19 Delicate Designs with Simple Lace and Timeless Silhouettes][1]*, first published in 2025 by Page Street Publishing. ---------------------------------------- **MY BOOK: SUMMER CROCHET** ----------------------- Enter your beachy crochet era with lightweight, breathable patterns perfect for poolside lounging, festival weekends and sun-soaked vacations.  This book includes 19 #SizeInclusive, warm-weather garment and accessory patterns using a variety of techniques and construction methods to ensure there is something of value for every skill level. Each garment pattern is written with an inclusive size range from XS to 5XL and each size has been **thoroughly tested, thoroughly tech edited, and fully charted**! We had hundreds of crochet pattern testers for this book to make sure that each size fits its intended wearer in a way that makes them feel beautiful. [Shop my new book, **Summer Crochet**, here or wherever you buy your books!][2] ---------- ABOUT ----- Keep your favorite pair of sunnies safe in this chic little pouch. The fabric on the front side features three lacy flowers, while the back remains solid to protect your lenses. The sleek flex frame closure takes this project from “great” to “wow, you made that yourself?!” This pattern is **fully written and charted**. This is the sister pattern to the Hibiscus Floral Wrap ([found here][3])—a matching shawl/wrap using the same lace stitch pattern! MATERIALS --------- **Yarn:** Fingering—[Hobbii Baby Cotton Organic][4] in colorway “Cream (02)” * 100% Cotton * 185 yds (169 m) per 1.8 oz (50 g) skein * Find this yarn on [hobbii.com][5] or visit [yarnsub.com][6] to find comparable substitutes available in your region. **Yardage Required:** 1 skein or approximately 85 yds (79 m) for both the flex frame closure and drawstring closure options For a three-colored version (using one color for each flower as shown in the multicolored sample in Ravelry photos), you will need approximately 25 yds (23 m) of each of the two bottom colors and 35 yds (32 m) of the top color. **Yarn Substitution:** [Visit knitsnknots.ca/hibiscus-sunglasses-pouch][7] for an extensive list of yarn substitutes and yarns used during pattern testing. Substitute [Hobbii Baby Cotton Organic][8] with any similar fingering-weight (category #1) yarn that matches gauge. This particular yarn is on the lighter end of the fingering-weight category. Note that fingering weight is often referred to as “4-ply” in the U.K. and Australia. **Yarn Tip:** Because of the floral detail, multicolored yarns such as heavily variegated or speckled yarns may muddle the lace pattern, causing the flowers to become indistinct. It is recommended to use a solid-colored yarn when working this pattern for best results. Be sure to swatch and block your chosen yarn before beginning. **Hook:** Size U.S. 4 (2 mm) steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge **Notions:** Tapestry needle and 2 locking stitch markers, 3–4 more locking stitch markers to help with seaming the top closure (optional), 1 flex frame measuring 4 inches (10 cm) in length and 1.4 inches (3.5 cm) in width (optional, as there are instructions on how to create a drawstring closure without any additional materials), pliers or some sort of tool to bend the tab of the flex frame, if using WHAT IS A FLEX FRAME? --------------------- Flex frames are typically used for coin purses or glasses cases. They provide a unique type of closure—one that opens when pressure is applied and snaps back into place as soon as the pressure is released. There are plenty of flex frame options online and they can also be found in most craft stores! GAUGE ----- 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) = 30 dc and 14 rows, blocked FINISHED MEASUREMENTS --------------------- *See diagram in Ravelry photos.* Finished pouch with flex frame closure measures approximately 3.5 inches (9 cm) wide (Measurement A) and 6.5 inches (17 cm) long (Measurement B). Finished pouch with drawstring closure measures approximately 3.5 inches (9 cm) wide (Measurement A) and 7 inches (18 cm) long (Measurement B). PATTERN NOTES ------------- **Skill Lev**el: Intermediate **Stitch Counts:** Stitch counts are listed after each row/rnd. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous row/rnd. **Reversible:** There is no right side or wrong side to this fabric; both sides are identical. The pattern will have you designate one side as the “right side” when working the pouch closure. **Turning Chain:** The turning chain does not count as a stitch unless otherwise indicated. **Stitch Marker:** You will need one stitch marker to mark the side of your pouch, placed in your first round. The other side is marked by the round joins. The marker placed will divide your work into two sides: the front and the back. The front has three lace flowers, while the back consists of solid stitches without any lace. This is intentional to have one solid piece of fabric (the back) to protect the lenses of your glasses, although you are welcome to work the floral detail on both sides if desired. **Construction:** This pouch is worked in joined rounds from the bottom up while incorporating three lacy hibiscus flowers into the front side of the fabric. Instructions are included for both a metal flex frame closure as well as a simple drawstring closure that requires no additional materials. The lacy floral design used in this pouch matches the Hibiscus Floral Wrap that can be found here. **More Content:** For more information and tester photos, visit [knitsnknots.ca/hibiscus-sunglasses-pouch][9].
