Whirl Skirt

**January 2025 version**: available in the magazine and is in US terminology. **May 2026 version**: sold by the designer in the Made with Love and Fibres Ravelry store and includes separate versions for US and UK terminology, both with in-progress photos for each component and video tutorial for drawstring. Bold colors used as an accent are perfect for showing movement in ruffles, like the ones on the split of this skirt. I created this garment for layering over warm leggings and a long-sleeved t-shirt in winter, and carried forward into other seasons with lighter weight, neutral undergarments or even swimwear. The stitches are easy and rather repetitive while the construction is interesting. You have relaxing parts to work when you don’t want to concentrate, and more focused tasks that could expand your skills as you complete your project. The skirt width is sized for your largest lower body circumference measurement. This might be around your hips, stomach, or elsewhere, depending on your figure shape. The pattern can easily be adapted for a better fit for your exact size. The waistband will stretch to the same length to go over your hips and is cinched with a cord. Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4) [5, 6, 7] (8, 9, 10), designed with 5 cm/2” positive ease in mind. Tension: 6 dtrV-st sts x 8 rows = 10cm x 10cm / 4” x 4” . 12 sts x 20 rows = 10cm x 10cm / 4” x 4” in ribbing using 3.75 (F/5) mm hook, after blocking. Working method: Skirt panel is made first. Then waistband is worked and attached. Ruffle is added and cord made.
