Crochet a pretty trivet to set your holiday dishes on. ***This crochet pattern is available for FREE on my website, (visit pattern website link above), or you can download it here on Ravelry as a print-optimized, ad-free PDF.*** **Difficulty:**  Intermediate  Techniques used: post stitches, shell stitches, puff stitches, popcorn stitches, cluster stitches, crochet in the back bar, crochet in the back loop, picots. **Materials Needed:** Approximately 155 yards #4 worsted weight cotton yarn in 4 colors of your choice. I used Hobby Lobby's I Love This Cotton in "Bruschetta" (20 yds), "Warm Blush" (20 yds), "Parchment" (30 yds), and Mainstay's (Walmart brand) cotton yarn in "Brown Stone Beige" (85 yds). Feel free to use Lily Sugar'n Cream cotton yarn instead if you prefer. 5mm (H) hook Yarn needle Scissors Stitch markers (Optional) 1/4 yard Cotton quilt batting (Optional) 1/4 yard cotton fabric of your choice (Optional) Sewing needle and thread **Stitches Used:** ch = chain sc = single crochet hdc = half double crochet  dc = double crochet tr = treble crochet BPhdc = back post half double crochet  BPsc = back post single crochet FPdc = front post double crochet FPtr = front post treble crochet **Additional Terms:** *Stitching in the 3rd loop of a hdc:* Look at the top of the stitch, and locate the sideways “V”, bend the stitch to look at the back, and you should see another “V”. You’ll be working into the back loop of that “V”, this is called the 3rd loop. *Popcorn stitch:* 4 dc in same st, take hook out of last dc just worked and put it through top of first dc, grab loop from 4th dc and pull it through the first dc. Single crochet 2 together (sc2tog): invisible decrease: insert hook through front loop of next 2 sts, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2. *Back bar of sc:* look at the back of the stitch and locate the short bar that runs horizontal. Work all designated stitches for the round into this bar. This is a different location than the back loop! 2tr cluster: 2tr cluster = YO hook twice, insert hook into designated ch-sp, or stitch, draw up a loop, [YO, draw through 2] twice, YO hook twice, insert hook into same ch-sp or stitch, draw up a loop, [YO, draw through 2] twice, YO, draw through 3. *Tiny picot:* ch 1, sl st back into ch. BLO = back loop only st/sts = stitch/stitches sp/sps = space/spaces **Gauge:** Gauge isn't especially important for this project. **Measurements:** Approximately 10" across **Additional Notes:** -This hot pad is **not** to be used a an oven mitt or potholder to pick up or remove hot dishes from the oven. It is only meant to set hot dishes on after they are done cooking. -Cotton will scorch at 450 degrees F so if you have been cooking a dish at temperatures hotter than 400 F, please wait several minutes for the pot to cool down before setting it on this trivet. -ONLY use cotton yarn for this project. NEVER use acrylic yarn for hot pads because it will melt. -Mid-round color changes will be made by pulling a loop of the new color through the final 2 loops of a sc, dc, or tr stitch, or the last 3 loops of a hdc stitch. Color changes at the beginning of a new round can be done with a chainless starting method. -ch-1 at beginning of round does not count as a stitch. -Slip stitches do not count as stitches unless otherwise noted.
