The Foundation Sweater is a simple raglan sweater that is easy to customize. In this version, I created a melange effect by knitting with 2 or 3 strands in varying colors, thicknesses, and textures. The Foundation Sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down, with short rows worked after the neck edge to create a higher neckline in the back than in the front. If you have leftover yarn, the Foundation Sweater serves as an excellent base pattern for using them up. Sweater measurements Circumference: (92) 97 (105) 111 (119) 129 (135) 143 (148) 153 cm [(36.25) 38.25 (41.25) 43.75 (46.75) 50.75 (53.25) 56.25 (58.25) 60.25”] Length: (50) 51 (53) 54 (56) 57 (59) 60 (61) 62 cm [(19.75) 20 (20.75) 21.25 (22) 22.5 (23.25) 23.5 (24) 24.5”] The length is measured from mid-back, excluding the neck edge. Yarn and yarn quantities for bouclé Isager Bouclé (100% alpaca, 50 g = 175 m) held together with Isager Highland (100% wool, 50 g = 275 m) Bouclé col. 47: (200) 200 (200) 250 (250) 300 (300) 350 (350) 400 g Highland col. Yarn and yarn quantities for mohair Sandnes Ballerina Chunky Mohair (77% mohair, 18% wool, 5% polyamide, 50 g = 135 m) worked together with 2 strands of Sandnes Alpakka Følgetråd (100% alpaca, 50 g = 400 m). Ballerina Chunky Mohair 5505: (200) 200 (250) 250-300 (300) 300 (350) 350 (400) 400 g Alpakka Følgetråd 2745: (100) 100 (100) 100 (100) 150 (150) 150 (150) 150 g Alpakka Følgetråd 2321: (100) 100 (100) 100 (100) 150 (150) 150 (150) 150 g The sweater can also be worked using just one strand of Alpakka Følgetråd instead of two strands. Make sure to pay extra attention to achieving the correct gauge. Note Everything is worked with 2 or 3 strands held together. Construction Begin by knitting the rolled neck edge in stockinette stitch, followed by ribbing. Then, continue in stockinette stitch, working short rows and raglan increases back and forth on circular needles. Then, work in the round with raglan increases until you reach the end of the yoke. From there, work the body and sleeves separately in the round in stockinette stitch, finishing with a ribbed edge at the bottom. Size guide Foundation Sweater is designed with approx. 15-25 cm [6-9.75”] of positive ease, allowing you to choose how loose or fitted you d like it to be. In the photo, the blue/burgundy Foundation Sweater in bouclé is shown with a positive ease of approx. 20 cm [7.75"]. Foundation Sweater in blue-violet/gold/natural mohair is shown with a positive ease of approx. 26 cm [10.25"]. Find your personal bust circumference by measuring around your chest (or the largest part of your upper body). Then, compare this measurement to the finished garment measurements listed at the beginning of the pattern. Positive ease is the difference between your body measurement and the measurements of the sweater. For example, if your bust circumference is 94 cm [37”], a size M will give you a positive ease of 7 cm [2.75”] (111 cm – 94 cm = 17 cm) [43.75” - 37” = 6.75”].
