Shadow knitting is an ingenious technique, worked with two contrasting colors and a smartly modified form of garter stitch, which creates hidden patterns in fabric that are only visible when viewed from an angle. If you’ve never seen shadow knitting in person, it really does feel like magic: Look at the fabric straight on, and you’ll see a simple black-and-white garter stitch stripe.
