Brioche Break Hat

*This hat is knit the round with two strands of fingering weight yarn held together throughout the entire project. I used four total colors of West Wool Bicycle, 2 colors held together for the main color + 2 other colors held together for the contrast color. The hat begins with stockinette stitch in the round, which is folded to create a warm double thick brim. The simple stockinette stitch fabric transitions into a brioche break section, which creates a plump ribbed accent. Choose one skein of each color in West Wool Bicycle or dive into your stash to make this colorful quick hat.* **Sizes** Small (Medium, Large) **Finished Measurements** 17.5 (19.5, 21.5)″ / 44 (50, 55)cm circumference. Measurements taken after blocking. Medium size is shown on a 22.5″ / 57cm head circumference. I recommend selecting a size that is 2 – 3″ / 5 – 8cm smaller than your actual head circumference for a fit with negative ease. **Yarn** Fingering weight held double Hold two strands of fingering weight yarn together throughout the entire hat, resulting in a worsted weight thickness. **Yardage** Approximately 350 (380, 420)yds / 320 (347, 384)m total About half of the yarn is used for the MC and about half is used for the CC. If you are using West Wool Bicycle, then 1 skein is more than enough of each color **Shown in** West Wool Bicycle (100% South American Merino Wool; 191yds / 175m per 50g skein) **Green Hat** MC - Wellington + Sage held together (darker marled combo) CC - Dijon + Pickle Juice held together (lighter marled combo) **Red Hat** MC - Chestnut + Red Hot held together (darker marled combo) CC - Biscuit + Sherbert held together (lighter marled combo) **Needles** US 7 / 4.5mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or one size smaller than the larger needle US 8 / 5mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or size needed to obtain gauge Magic loop method is used for knitting smaller circumferences in the round. Watch this Westknits video to assist with knitting with DPNs. https://youtu.be/y9bvVy08PeE **Notions** 1 stitch marker, tapestry needle **Gauge** 18 sts & 26 rnds = 4″ / 10cm in stockinette stitch after blocking using larger needles (US 8 / 5mm recommended) **Pattern Notes** In two-color brioche stitch, two rounds are worked for each counted round that appears on the face of the fabric. The first color is worked around and then the round is worked again using the second color. The next round is worked the same way, once around with the first color and worked again with the second color. When counting rounds, count only the stitches going up on a knit column. 2 worked rounds = 1 counted round. When you put down your knitting and forget which color you just used and which color to use next, look at the color of the yo in the row just worked.
