Snail Backpack

Live out your cottagecore dreams and have a giant snail climb up your back and store all your treasures. This backpack is more of a crossbody style bag that can be worn across your back or front. The colors I selected for my snail mimic the colors of the real-life Blushing Snail, which seems like it should be a fictional creature. It’s too cute! Go crazy with your color selections, and have fun! This project is best suited for at least an adventurous beginner. You will need to know some hand sewing basics, but I promise it’s not anything too crazy. If you have access to a sewing machine, that can be helpful for the lining. However, it is not required and I totally believe in your abilities! Yarns: Worsted cotton yarn (I used Dishie by KnitPicks, their color names are in parentheses) Shell (Honeydew, 100g, 190 yds) Shell spiral (any contrast color, 10 yds) Body (Creme Brulee, 100g, 190 yds) Strap (Dewdrop, 20g, 40 yds) A note about yarns: You are welcome to use whatever sturdy yarn you desire. I highly suggest a cotton worsted weight as it will result in a durable, squishy but structured snail pal. Stitches Used: Ch: Chain stitch SC: Single crochet DC: Double crochet HDC: Half double crochet BRO: Work in the back ridge of a ch FLO: Front loop only BLO: Back loop only SLST: Slip stitch FO: Finish off WE: Work even Inc: Increase Dec: Decrease MR: Magic ring method of starting a crochet piece in the round Rnd: Round Tools & Materials: Size G/ 4.25 mm Hook Scissors 10 long or longer zipper Stuffing (or yarn scraps, fabric scraps) Sewing needle and thread Large sewing needle for stitching with yarn yard of cotton fabric for the lining Sewing machine (optional, you can create this bag by handsewing only) Two circle or D rings, 1 to 2 diameter One 1 to 2 wide slide bar adjuster (for lengthening / shortening the strap) One swivel trigger clasp hook (also called lobster claw clasps) at least 1.5 long
