Let’s kick up our heels and cast on a little bit of excitement! This bandana-style cowl is unlike any you’ve knit before. Almost all of the stitches are simple, yet they come together in unique and surprising ways with the final step revealing a fringe (option) that you were creating all along! Lines of color and texture dance across your needles as you create this happy new addition to your wardrobe. Each section is relatively short and easy to work, making this a quick project to add to your queue. Shop for yarn or dive into your stash, then share your knitting online. After all, a Line Dance is most fun when you join a crowd!

**What to expect:**
This design was created to bring **JOY** to your needles by playing with color and simple textures. Almost all of the stitches are simple to work, but the unique construction will introduce both challenges and surprises. I’m always hoping to guide your knitting skills to the next level, so I’ve created video tutorials and diagrams to help along the way. It's an intermediate pattern, but I love helping adventurous beginners level up! I want this to be a HAPPY new accessory, and a knitting experience that is so much FUN!
**Needles:**
US 4 (3.5mm) circular needles, or as required to meet gauge; **2 sets** of needles: 24” / 60 cm, 32” / 80cm, or similar length recommended
**Gauge:**
23 sts and 34 rows = 4”/10cm in stockinette stitch before blocking
22 sts and 34 rows = 4”/10cm in stockinette stitch after blocking
(NOTE: If wet-blocking a swatch, you can pin it in place, but do not stretch it aggressively like you would for a shawl. Gauge is not crucial, but it will affect finished dimensions and yardage.)
**Notions:**
Required: 6 stitch markers, removable stitch marker, scrap yarn, tapestry needle
Optional: blocking pins, wires, and mats
**Yarn Requirements:**
This design was created to highlight five colors of solid or semi-solid fingering weight yarn. This can be a gradient set OR a variety of colors (such as the sample). The **Getting Ready Guide** gives advice on both choosing and arranging your colors.
Here is the amount needed for each color. The amounts include 15% more that was used in the sample to ensure you have enough to account for swatching and gauge differences. That will give you a little flexibility in the necessary yardage:
C1: 107 yds / 97 m
C2: 101 yds / 92 m
C3: 90 yds / 82 m
C4: 89 yds / 81 m
C5: 116 yds / 106 m
The sample for this design uses Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply Toes in the ['Line Dance' colorway](https://www.missbabs.com/collections/line-dance-mkal-sets) (100% superwash Merino; 133 yd / 1.3 oz): Perseus (C1), Oxidized Silver (C2), Antique Brass (C3), Plover (C4), Easy Sway (C5). [Other dyers from around the world have created kits](https://www.ravelry.com/discuss/paper-daisy-creations/topics/4300029#1) to give you LOTS of options. This project also works great with stash and leftover yarns! Included is information on arranging your colors for beautiful results.
