**Materials** * Aran / Heavy Worsted weight yarn (see chart in third photo) Sample is shown in Bumblebee Acres Sassquatch Aran in the Helm’s Deep Colorway [181 yds / 166m per 100g skein; 100% BFL] * US H (5.0 mm) double-ended Tunisian crochet hook, or size needed to achieve specified gauge * US G (4.0 mm) standard crochet hook, or size desired for cuff ribbing * Locking stitch marker **Gauge** 16 sts / 22 rounds = 4" (10 cm) in unblocked TKS worked in the round with 5.0mm hook **Sizing and Yarn Requirements** See third photo **YARN CHOICE & SUBSTITUTION** The yarn used is a loosely-plied, 2-ply, non superwash BFL yarn. Because it is non-super wash, it does not have the drape that a super wash yarn does, which lends structure to the mittens. I recommend a fairly sturdy yarn for this pattern because mittens are a high-wear item. Choose a yarn that is similar in yardage for the best match. **NOTES** * Construction: This pattern begins at the wrist, increases for the thumb gusset, completes the hand, works the thumb, then the bottom cuff. If you are worried about running out of yarn, you can just work a shorter cuff! * Gauge: This pattern deliberately uses a tighter gauge than is typically seen in Tunisian crochet, so the resulting fabric will be denser and help block the wind out. Working at a different gauge will result in mittens that do not fit as intended and will also change the amount of yarn required. * Fingerless Gloves: Instructions for modifying these mittens into fingerless gloves can be found in the appropriate sections of the pattern. -------------------------------------------- This pattern has been professionally tech edited and made by volunteer pattern testers. It is error free to the best of my ability, but I'm human! Please feel free to use the pattern support email listed in the pattern if you have questions or problems with this pattern. **Techniques Used** Foundation Single Crochet Front and back post ribbing Tunisian Knit Stitch (TKS) TKS2TOG decreases
