This geometric scarf will probably **make you feel like a sophisticated Parisian strolling along the Champs-Élysées**! Versatile and timeless, it’s not just a perfect accessory for autumn coats.
SZACHMAT scarf is a long, narrow scarf with tapered ends, worked entirely in a ***Basketweave*** stitch**. The scarf begins with a cast-on that creates a **decorative *I-cord*** edge along both sides. Stitches are then gradually increased on one side until the scarf reaches its full width. After working to the desired length, the other end is shaped with decreases, creating a symmetrical finish.
You can download a PDF preview with the most important information such as size guide, detailed measurements, yarn requirement, needles and notions in ENG and PL [here][1].
**Sizes:**
SZACHMAT scarf was designed in **two sizes** that differ only in length. The smaller version wraps around the neck once, while the larger wraps twice. Both can be tied. **You can also make a size in between to suit your preferences and the amount of yarn you have** - simply follow the instructions for modifications included in the pattern.
**Suggested yarn:**
The SZACHMAT scarf is worked with a single strand of superlight DK weight yarn.
25 (36) g Lamana - Como or Como Cashmere or Cardiff Cashmere - Cashmere Classic.
These are tested suggestions - any yarn of a similar weight will work just as well.
The stated number of grams refers only to the finished scarf for size 1 (size 2 has a bit of leftovers to work a swatch) and does not include the swatch requirement. **You can find detailed instructions for modifications in the pattern to use up exactly the amount of yarn you have in your stash.**
**Swatch and gauge:**
When it comes to the SZACHMAT scarf, achieving the indicated gauge is not as crucial as usual, but it’s still worth checking anyways. If the tension you knit with differs from the one given in the pattern, you may run out of yarn.
Additionally, the *Basketweave* stitch doesn't look equally defined or even in every type of yarn. It's worth working a small swatch first to make sure you'll be happy with the finished piece.
Gauge, measured from the swatch knitted flat using the pattern stitch, on 3,5 mm / US 4 / needles, after washing and blocking:
**10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in / = 29/30 sts x 35/36 rows**
**Techniques:**
* *Long Tail Cast On*
* Pattern Stitch (*Basketweave* stitch - described in detail in the pattern)
* *I-cord* edge (described in detail in the pattern)
* Increasing methods: M1Rk, M1Rp
* Decreasing methods: p2tog
All techniques used in the pattern are described there in detail.
