Double Thick Coaster

I learned to make this coaster while volunteering as a Victorian lady at Living History Farms one summer. Crocheting was a proper pastime for ladies, so it was something I was allowed to do while in costume. I have seen many adaptions to make these bigger and use them as potholders or hotpads. I love using them as coasters in the summer because they soak up the condensation from drinking glasses nicely. One skein of Lily's Sugar'n Cream cotton yarn can make 2 coasters with some yarn left over. A small coaster size starts with a chain of 25. The medium size for a coffee mug starts with a chain of 28.
