Believe it or not, this pattern was born from a sunset. I was so inspired to try and capture the colors of the sky…it looked like it was on fire! The method of construction is overlay mosaic crochet with an envelope (or double) border. Level: -Confident Beginner/Intermediate Terms: -American Standard Gauge: -12 double crochets = 2” Finished Size: -Approximately 48” x 56” Hook Size: -Body: 5/0 – 3 mm hook -Border: C – 2.75mm hook Yarn: -Color A (Main Color): Scheepjes Whirl in “Red Velvet Sunrise”, fingering weight, 1000 metres/1093 yards per ball – 2 balls needed -Color B (Pattern and Border Color): Scheepjes Whirlette in “Liquorice”, fingering weight, 455 metres/497 yards per ball – 7 balls needed Note: if you want a narrower border you may not need all 7 balls of Whirlette. Some possible substitutions if you choose not to use Scheepjes: Comparable yarns for Whirls = exact quantity matches are Hobbii Twister, Hobbii Sultan Deluxe, and YarnArt Flowers. Red Heart It’s A Wrap is very comparable, but not all of them are 200g balls so make sure to check. Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Bee Rainbow Wrapsody is another possible sub, but they are 839 metre/918 yard balls so you will likely need more than 2 balls for Color A and you’ll have to be creative about how you incorporate the third ball in if you want symmetrical color. Lion Brand Yarn has a new product out called Mandala String Yarn…this is definitely a possibility, but it is a touch thicker yarn and the color changes are going to be different (totally LOVE that Beats colorway though!). Comparable yarns for Whirlettes = Hobbii Twister Solid, YarnArt Flowers Unicolor (need 2x the amount, the balls are half the size of Whirlettes).
