Houndstooth Coatigan

**ABOUT** Choose two contrasting colors for your oversized statement cardigan, crocheted in the houndstooth stitch, a two-toned variation of the lemon peel stitch. The term “coatigan” is a hybrid between a coat and a cardigan, named as such because when you working the back and front panels, the non-working color is carried across each row, creating a warm, dense fabric. Block your swatch the same way you would block your finished cardigan. Measure the inner 4" (10 cm) of your blocked swatch to get the most accurate measurement. Within 4” (10 cm), you should have 14 sts and 12 rows in order to achieve the finished measurements in the Sizing Chart. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous row/rnd. If only one number is provided, it applies to all sizes. **Turning Chain:** The turning chain does not count as a stitch anywhere in this pattern. **Reversible:** There is no right side or wrong side to this stitch pattern; however, each side looks slightly different. One side will appear to have the MC as the dominant color, and the other side will appear to have the CC as the dominant color. You choose which side to designate as the right side. **Construction:** The body of this cardigan is worked side-to-side in 3 pieces: two front panels and one back panel. Once these pieces are assembled, the sleeves are crocheted directly onto the body in joined, turned rounds until reaching your desired length before working the cuffs. A bottom hem is worked next and a collar is added last. **Adjusting Length:** To adjust the length of your cardigan, adjust the beginning chain as described in the pattern instructions. **Changing Colors:** When changing colors, work the last stitch of the row with the old color, but do not work the final yarn-over to close the stitch. Work this yarn-over with the new color. Then drop the old color and continue crocheting with the new color. In this pattern, you will be carrying your old color across your row by crocheting over the strand until reaching the end of the row so that your old color will be ready for you to pick up to begin a new row. **Adjusting the Sleeves:** You can work any size sleeve onto your cardigan, you do not necessarily have to stick with the size you have been making up to this point. Follow the instructions for any sleeve size, making sure to follow the correct instructions for the “Sleeve Marker Placement” section under the “Assembling Body Panels” heading as well, since this affects your sleeve.
