This pattern is free when signing up for the Creative Crochet Corner [website.][1] You can read my blog post about it on the Creative Crochet Corner over [here.][2] These cute pumpkins are a fast, fun, fall project, and can be made from scrap yarn from your stash! Each pumpkin is made from two rectangles: one large one and one tiny one. A hollow tube goes down the center of each pumpkin, where you can add a twig from your yard for the stem, or you can even add cinnamon stick for that wonderful fall scent! Be sure to read the blog post on the Creative Crochet Corner for additional information about this project! Finished Measurements The size of each pumpkin depends on the yarn weight, and hook size used. The pumpkins pictured range in size from 2” tall and 13” in circumference for a light worsted weight pumpkin, to 3.75” tall and 24” in circumference for a bulky weight pumpkin. See Gauge section below for more information. Materials • Approximately 70-80 yds [ m] light worsted, DK-weight, worsted weight yarn (CYCA#3 or #4), OR 100-110 yds [m] chunky or bulky weight yarn (CYCA#5 or #6) preferably wool, alpaca or acrylic (or a blend of these fibers). Yardage is affected by yarn weight and gauge- these are only approximations. • Any hook needed to achieve a firm gauge: See gauge section below for hook suggestions • Yarn Needle • Removeable stitch markers- optional, to keep track of the first and last stitch of each row • One twig, or cinnamon stick for the stem. The smaller pumpkins (made with worsted weight- or a lighter weight yarn) will only need a half-stick of cinnamon (you can break the cinnamon sticks in half, and hide the broken end down inside the pumpkin). Yarn Used for Pumpkins Shown Ecru pumpkin Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light (light worsted weight, 50% Super Fine Alpaca, 50% Peruvian Wool; 146 yards [133m]/ 1.75 oz [50 grams]: Barley #42189; partial skein Teal pumpkin Cascade 220 Superwash (worsted weight, 100% Superwash Wool; 220 yards [200m]/ 3.5 oz [100 grams]: Duck Egg Blue #1985; partial skein Rust pumpkin Plymouth Encore Tweed (worsted weight, 75% Acrylic, 22% Wool, 3% Rayon; 200 yards [183m]/ 3.5 oz [100 grams]: Spiced Pumpkin #T456; partial skein Light green pumpkin Red Heart Super Saver (worsted weight, 100% Acrylic; 364 yards [333m]/ 8 oz [225 grams]: Light Thyme #0342; partial skein. Note: this color has been discontinued, but Frosty Green appears to be a close substitute. Gold pumpkin Berroco Roving (Bulky weight, 80% Acrylic, 20% Wool; 120 yards [109m]/ 3.5 oz [100 grams]: Squashed Pumpkin #15; partial skein Gauge Getting gauge isn’t important, however, achieving a firm fabric that will not show the stuffing through is important. The gauge for each of the 5 different samples (made with different yarn weights and different hooks sizes) is given here for reference. To check gauge, work 12 rows of the Pumpkin directions so see if you like the resulting fabric. If you are using a yarn weight similar to one of the yarn weights given, you can compare your gauge, however, if you are happy with the firmness of the fabric, that is more important.
