When we first moved to Switzerland, I was quite shocked to learn that we can experience very warm summers, as I had imagined eternal snowy mountains and pine forests. And nothing is more refreshing or welcome during a heat wave than a dip in a cool Swiss lake on a hot summer’s evening. Inspired by the swans who kindly share the many beautiful lakes with us. **Construction Notes** Knit from the top down with a ribbed cuff, this sock includes a swan colorwork pattern on the leg (with optional duplicate stitch sections for the eyes and beak) and finishes with a little simple colorwork detail before the toe is knitted. These socks are knit with a ribbed heel, flap and gusset. **Sizing** 1 (2, 3) To fit (foot circumference): 7½ (8½, 9½) inches / 18–20 (20.5–23, 23.5–25) cm **Yarn** Fingering weight, GigglingGecko Socklandia Soxs yarn (80% superwash merino wool, 20% nylon), 398 yds (365 m) per 100-g skein Shown in **MC:** Lake Zürich (1 skein) **CC:** Marina Mist 25g, 91m / 100 yds Scrap fingering weight yarn of black and orange for swan’s eye and beak. **Gauge** 34 sts x 38 rnds = 4 inches (10 cm) for colorwork. 36 sts x 42 rnds = 4 inches (10 cm) for stockinette and ribbing. **Needles** For ribbing and stockinette: US 1 (2.25 mm), 32-inch (80-cm) circular for magic loop, or DPNs, or two circulars or a 9-inch (23-cm) circular needle (as preferred). For colorwork: US 1.5 (2.5 mm), 32-inch (80-cm) circular for magic loop, or DPNs, or two circulars or a 9-inch (23-cm) circular needle (as preferred). Additional sizes can be achieved by going up or down needle sizes. Any fingering weight sock yarn can be used for this sock pattern as long as you can obtain the same gauge.
