Fresh Pineapple

Fresh Pineapple is my own fresh interpretation of the traditional crochet pineapple motif stitch pattern, and I have added it as an edging for a scarf that is crocheted from side to side. This pattern takes my side to side construction technique and steps it up a notch! The two stitch patterns of the scarf form a shallow crescent-like shape, with the pineapple motif edging crocheted on the bottom edge of the scarf as you crochet through the rows. You will crochet a 14-row repeat that is easily memorized that includes the edging and the body of the scarf. This project uses one skein of light fingering weight yarn that is at least 490 yards, and you will have only two loose ends to weave in when you are finished. For my scarf I used the lovely Miss Babs Yarn Tarte (500 yards/122 grams) in the color “Pallon Beach”. Be sure to check out all of the beautiful colors of this yarn at www.missbabs.com. Choose a tonal or solid color yarn to show off the pineapple motif edging, as a highly variegated yarn will obscure the edging. And, the scarf is fun to crochet! You will enjoy watching the pineapple motifs appear and the edging grow along the bottom edge of the scarf as you crochet this quick project. Fresh Pineapple is generously long so that it is very easy to wrap and wear, making it a great gifting project for friends and loved ones. This pattern is intermediate in difficulty and I do not recommend it for crochet beginners. I recommend that beginners crochet either Moon Garden or Mesmerized to see how the side to side construction works before attempting Fresh Pineapple.
