Color blocking and stripes make these otherwise simple and no frills socks a stunner. These socks are not just for women's feet, the pattern has eight kid sizes and six adult sizes, so everyone in your family can match. The completely seamless sock is worked in an interesting hybrid construction. The sock starts with a provisional cast-on for the heel which is shaped with short rows. The sole is worked flat in rows to the toe. The toe is shaped with short rows in the same way as the heel but a second color is added here for a striped version. Now the instep of the sock is worked toe up flat in rows. In every row the last stitch of the instep is worked together with the corresponding garter bump of the sole. In this way the two parts of the foot are joined as you go. When all stitches from sole and instep are joined the life stitches of the heel cast-on will be slipped to the needle to work the striped leg in rounds up to the cuff. For people with a very high instep this type of sock construction won't be the best choice. **Yarn** Any high twist sock yarn with a good stitch definition will work well for this design. I'd recommend 4 shades of solid or semisolid colored yarn: a neutral, two nicely corresponding colors plus a complementary color. 1 skein / 50 g each will be enough for all sizes. It’s a great opportunity to use up left overs.
