Any Aran/Worsted weight yarn would work for this project, although cotton is recommended for its absorbency and heat resistance. I have used a mix of Aran/Worsted weight 100% cotton yarn I had in my stash (Drops Paris, Paintbox Yarns Cotton, Rico Creative Cotton), and a 4.5mm crochet hook. The finished eyeball coasters measure approximately 10cm/4” in diameter. These coasters are quick to make and only use a small amount of yarn, less than 10yds of each colour. So they are great for craft fairs, or classroom gifting! Gauge: Exact gauge is not too important. Just try to keep your stitches compact. I have used a 4.5mm hook with Aran/Worsted weight yarn, which is half a hook size smaller than recommended for the yarn. You will need: Aran/Worsted weight Cotton yarn in the following colours for each coaster: Black - less than 2yds Iris Main Colour - less than 5yds Iris Accent Colour - less than 3yds White - less than 9yds Pink or Red - less than 5yds 4.5mm hook, Stitch marker. Yarn needle, Scissors. Optional: A steam iron for blocking.
