This is a more loose fit. If you want it a bit smaller you could go down a hook size. or yarn, but just a warning, if you go down both, it will be much smaller. I went down both needle and yarn and was able to make a hat for my 5-year old. This is also a knit brim with a crochet body hat pattern.
