Do you have special single skeins and leftover yarns? Tin Roof is a fun knit to work with these. Instructions are written in a way that allows you to work with colours freestyle if you wish. You can knit bold colour blocks or blend colours in stripes.
This is a slightly cropped colourblock tee inspired by old tin roof houses by the sea in my childhood in tropical Singapore.
Two samples are knitted for this design.
**Sample 1** is knitted with two alternating colourways across the cap sleeves and 6 vertical colour blocks, evenly distributed like painted wood panels on the walls of tin roof houses. A third colourway, aptly named Old Tin Roof II used in the sample, runs horizontally across the hem.
**Sample 2**, knitted with leftover yarns, shows how this design may be adopted to create freestyle colour combinations.
Instructions are written for Sample 1, but are written in a way that can be easily adopted for working freestyle with colours like shown in Sample 2.
**NOTES AND TECHNIQUES**
The top part of the tee is made with left and right pieces knitted flat sideways, from the sleeves to the centre-line of the tee. The sleeves are shaped by **German short rows**, then stitches are added with **Cable cast on** to create the front and the back. A shoulder detail is created while knitting the front and back as one piece. The left and right pieces are joined at the centre-line with **Russian grafting** with a crochet hook. Sides are joined with **horizontal stockinette seaming**. The bottom part of the tee is worked in the round in reversed stockinette stitch and 1x1 rib, or stockinette stitch and 1x1 rib from the reverse side. A contrasting colour is used for binding off.
**FINISHED BUST MEASUREMENT**

Tin Roof
